No boom, no bust: Russia’s economy stutters along
Heading into the summit in Alaska, presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have very different assessments of the health of the Russian economy. The US leader has said it is “not doing well right now,” while Putin has hailed stability and the “return to balanced growth.” Both are wrong. To borrow a phrase from HBO’s “Chernobyl”, the Russian economy is “not great, not terrible.”
